Here are a few quick and handy tips for the new motorcyclist or anyone looking at taking it up.
1. Always inspect your bike before setting off (tyre condition, loose bolts, nuts, lights and turn signals, chain or belt, oil, etc). In particular you should always be aware of the condition of your tyres and change them when needed. NEVER ride your bike with suspect tyres, it doesn’t matter how good a rider you are or how good the bike may be if the tyres have no grip it’s a matter of time before you come off.
2. Wear ALL your gear, ALL the time. It doesn’t matter if you are just going for a 5 minute trip, it doesn’t matter if it is swelteringly hot outside you should always wear your protective clothing (helmet, leathers, boots, gloves etc.). Obviously it is law to wear your helmet, but personally i would never go anywhere without proper protective clothing on too. If it gets too hot inside your leathers, pull over for a while and have a cold drink.
3. Ride defensively. You should be aware of your surroundings at all times and looking far enough ahead so that you can see and anticipate what is coming next. Keep your eyes open for hazards on the road like oil spills, mud/gravel, potholes etc.
4. Where other motorists are concerned, expect the unexpected. You have your headlights on, your high-viz jacket and the car driver just looked in your direction. He saw you, right? WRONG! Never assume that a car driver has seen you, always be prepared that they will pull out from a junction in front of you or decide to change into your lane. Also, never think that a car driver will anticipate how fast you are going when trying to judge whether they have time to pull out or not.
5. A bit of a no-brainer this one but still worth mentioning. NEVER, EVER, ride your motorcycle under the influence of alcohol or drugs!

Good Tips, what about this one:
Ride For Yourself. Meaning don’t leave off the gear because your friends prefer to ride in trainers and jeans. Don’t hit speeds you can’t handle just to keep up with others. Always ride to your own ability and comfort zone.

Yeah thats a good one, and something i’ve been guilty of in the past. Riding a little too quick to keep up with a group of more experienced riders will land you in trouble.
