Aaron Maxfield
Aaron Maxfield has been riding pocket bikes since December 2007.
He started riding at the Minimoto Racing Ltd track at Hullavington, Wiltshire where they founded the National Pocket Bike championship series.
Until the weekend of 23/08/08, Aaron had never ridden on an outside track. That weekend at South Wales Karting Centre at LLandow, he rode in qualifying sessions on the Saturday and 3 races on the Sunday. These 3 races gain points that are added together to result in the overall win of the race of the day.
During the first heat (where it rained heavily) Aaron gained 1st place, in the second and third heats, he gained 4th and 5th position. This gave him a total of 49 points, which resulted in winning the Junior Novice class. This class is made up of children of around the same age; however all other children have had previous experience of outdoor track racing and had been racing competitively for at least a year. Having entered only one round of the season, the overall championship placing for Aaron was 10th.
In November 2008, Aaron entered the National Pocketbike Series Winter Championship. He won all 3 heats, giving him an overall 1st place and set the fastest lap under extreme wet weather conditions. This championship was abandoned by the organisers after the first round, however Aaron was, by default, the NPS Winter Champion.
In November 2008 and 2009, Aaron took part in demonstration pocketbike riding at the National Motorcycle Show at the NEC, the objective is to raise awareness of riding
pocketbikes in safe and controlled environments, and encouraging new young riders into the sport.
In 2009 Aaron rode in the National Pocketbike Series in the 4.2 Novice class. After 8 rounds and having gained seven podiums and four pole positions, he took the title of National Novice Champion 2009.
Aaron took ownership of a Metrakit GP50 early in 2009 and spent a track day at the end of January learning to ride a gearbox bike for the first time. He then went into Round 1 in March. The first two rounds were a learning curve, and Round 1 (having a notoriously slippery track) resulted in Aaron experiencing a low-side crash in Heat 1 (full sequence captured by talented photographer Jon Wishart and can be found at Aaron’s website), but going on to gain a 3rd and a 4th place in the subsequent heats resulting in an overall 4th place.
By Round 3, Aaron was at one with the bike and finishing on the podium at every round, despite numerous technical problems as the season progressed. With 2 rounds to go to the end of the 2009 season, the Metrakit had serious technical issues which resulted in a total engine re-build by Scott Finlay of Finlay Race Preparation.
Aaron had been lying in 4th place in the National championship for most of the season, with a total of five podiums in eight rounds. At Round 7 he had moved up to 2nd place and kept this placing to gain the title of National GP 50 Runner Up 2009.

In 2010 Aaron will ride an Aprilia 125 in the Superteens Challenge. He will also be entered in the Nitro Newcomers championship that runs as part of the main championship. This is run by Thundersport GB, and coverage is shown throughout the season on Motors TV. Round 1 is 13th March 2009.

Aaron,
What a great first round of the season, First time on the Metrakit GP50 and two 3rd places giving you 4th in the championship and two 2nd places and a 1st on the Minimoto 4.2 giving you 2nd overall in the championship with a bike that we know was not running at it’s best and nursing some aches and pains and a bruised throttle hand from the high speed Metrakit crash on Saturday, but you pulled it out the bag and rode with all your heart and soul to pull out some excellent results.
I can not put into words how proud of you I am and the way you go from strength to strength and push the boundaries every time you go out on track.

Excellent Track day at Mallory Park, Aaron put in some stunning laps for his first time out on the bike. Looking really good for the build up to Round One.
Great stuff Stewart, are we likely to see a report from yourself or Aaron following round one? Would be really interested to read how he gets on.
