Alex Gault hails from Carluke in Central Scotland, and began his motorcycle racing career aged 10 on Minimoto’s (or Pocket Bikes) back in 2000. Alex’s natural talent was immediately evident, he won the Scottish Minimoto championships at his first attempt, against all the odds. This led him to being picked up by Pier Franco Zanetti who signed him to ride ZPF minibikes in the UK. Zanetti is the man that introduced Valentino Rossi to minibike racing, and Alex repaid his faith by winning 3 National titles for ZPF between 2001 and 2003!

Alex then moved to full size bikes at the age of 12 and in 2003 won the Junior Racing Associations “Formula 80″ Championship at his first attempt, breaking records on the way (The first time the title had gone out of England and the first, and only, time it had not been won by a Cagiva. Alex used a Spanish Motor-Hispania). All the while Alex was still racing minimoto’s for ZPF, winning another national title.

The move to the 125GP class in 2004 saw Alex win the JRA 125GP Championship, breaking lap records set by Casey Stoner (2007 MotoGP Champion). These performances led to him being signed by the Italian scooter company Malaguti to ride one of their GP 125’s in the 2005 British Championships. However, due to a number of reasons, it was a disastrous season for Alex. With Malaguti having their own problems in the World Championships they were not able to lend any support to Alex, he did, however, manage to get top 10 finishes in a very strong field.

2006 saw Alex Gault move on to racing 4 strokes, and his results were nothing short of spectacular. Riding 2 very different bikes, in the CB500 Cup he won every race, he also rode a Honda RVF in the Super Sport 400 class. Out of a total of 30 races that year he managed a magnificent 24 wins, 2 2nd places, 1 3rd and 3 DNF’s.

He won the CB500 Championship breaking lap records set by James Toseland, James Ellison and Shane Byrne all of whom either have or are competing at the highest level of motorcycle racing.

2007 had an exciting start that very quickly turned to disappointment, Alex won a ride in the European Suzuki GSXR Cup, however he was 8 months too young by English rules and the ACU would not give dispensation for him to race. The year was spent preparing for the 2008 season.

  9. Saw some awsome racing at knockhill this year, and have to add that Alex Gault was stunning , at the age of 16 , made experieced riders look very average and in my eyes the true scottish champion

By far the most talented prospect in scotland for a long time

    good luck 2008

  15. Saw this guy win both his races at Knockhill back in September…………Couldn’t believe it when I found out he was 16 years old!!!! He’s riding way beyond his years. If your a betting man he’s definetly worth a punt for future success.

  17. Woohoo, guess I’m the first of the newsletter brigade to get here. Any of you guys out there want to help with the career of the next 2-wheeled British world champion (after Jonathan Rea of-course!), this is the boy. Firstly, he’s one of the very few with the genuine ability to do, and secondly, they’ll always remember who helped get them there. Here’s to another step up in 2008!

You could try reading the interviews with racers (we interviewed Alex too), they all gave a little advice on people wanting to start racing.

Also sign up for the community area and ask some of the racers in their too.
