As part of our “Interview The Racers” series we are happy to bring you the second interview, with young racer Nathan Westwood.
The Biker Place would like to thank Nathan and his dad John for taking the time to do this interview, leave any comments you might have at the bottom of the interview.
Just in case you missed part 1, here is the link for the interview with Bradley Ray.
- What first got you interested in motorcycle racing and who inspired you to get involved?
- My Dad and watching MotoGP.
- You started racing minimotos in 2005, what advice would you give to anyone out there who would like to get involved in racing but doesn’t know where to start or who to get in touch with?
- Look on Minimotoclub web forum and go visit a track day or race day and talk to other racers.
- How have you found the moved to a geared motorcycle? Is it a difficult change?
- It was weird at first as the back brake now became the clutch, getting used to the gears took about ½ an hour. As I’ve had a go on a Jawa auto, the size didn’t really matter.
- How much time do you put into training/practicing to be a competitive racer?
- I do about 2 track days a month out of season and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday on race weekends. My nearest track is Whilton Mills about 50 miles away.
- To date what has been your most memorable moment/acheivement in racing?
- The day I beat Brad Ray….lol
- And, what has been your worst/most disappointing moment in racing?
- When I was second in a race at Stretton in 2006, catching Brad and the engine seized.
- Give us a little run down on where you will be competing and on what bike(s) for 2008?
- I will be racing at Fab-racings British MiniGP in the 50 class on a Metrakit miniGP50.
- What are your aims or what do you think you can acheive in 2008?
- To win the championship or at least the top 3.
- What would be your ideal career path in motorcycle racing from where you are now?
- GP50’s this year, GP70’s next year then either Spanish 125’s or aprilia superteens, then the plan is to get to national or international 125’s then MotoGP of course.
- Any people in particular you would like to thank or mention for getting to where you are so far?
- My Mum and Dad, Chris my brother, Racetech engineering for my 2007 race bike (Minimoto)
Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, good luck for the 2008 season.
