Young Briton Bradley Smith put in the fastest time overall in the final three day test at the Losail, Qatar circuit. Smith posted a best time of 2′05.306 to go into the season opener full of confidence.
Day One of the tests, ran at night to replicate the race conditions, saw Bancajar Aspar rider Sergio Gadea top the standings with a time of 2′05.982. British teenager Danny Webb, one of the youngest competitors in the championship, had the third fastest time putting in his best testing performance of the pre-season. Bradley Smith and Scott Redding ended up 6th and 7th respectively.
Day Two of the test was an exceptionally good day for British interests in the championship and, had it not been for Bradley Smith’s superb lap time, the focus would have been firmly on rookie Scott Redding. Smith’s time of 2′05.306 put him over a second quicker than 2007 champion Gabor Talmacsi and six tenths of a second quicker than Sergio Gadea’s time of the previous night.
Scott Redding finished second, fractionally slower than Smith, and continued his amazing adaption to the class. Danny Webb, the third and final Brit in the class, round out the top six with another impressive performance.
The Third and final day saw Frenchman Mike Di Meglio register the fastest time of the day, slightly slower than Bradley Smith’s overall fastest time (set on Day 2), followed by Bradley Smith and 2007 champion Gabor Talmacsi. Scott Redding finished the session with the 7th fastest time.
The MotoGP 125cc championship is shaping up to be a very exciting series for British motorcycle racing fans, with Smith, Redding and Webb impressing in testing. I personally cannot wait for the season to get underway now. Good luck boys from The Biker Place
