With the 2008 British Superbike Championship hitting the half way point today at Mallory Park, Omagh School girl Nicole McAleer was hoping that the double header meeting would signal the perfect start to her school holidays.
However luck was not on the teenager’s side this weekend, when her SP 125 Racing Honda seized in the final qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, after only four laps, thus relegating her down to 31st on the grid for the Mallory Park round, although she was due to start the Donington Park rescheduled round, which was held also today, on the third row of the grid.
Come race day and luck was still not to be found for the teenager who struggled to finish in race one due to a technical problem caused by the seizure during qualifying. Although she bravely struggled on to finish in 21st place, whilst in race two she finished 24th in the fight back from her lowly qualifying position. Despite the disappointment she still bagged a handful of points to keep her will up in the Academy Cup race.
McAleer is now looking forward to the fundraiser on Friday night in the Windsor in Bangor, during the three week break, before the second half of the season kicks off at Oulton Park in July.
