Rookie Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo won the Portuguese GP at Estoril from Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa. It was a maiden victory for the 20-year-old Spaniard whose Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi finished third.

So the 2008 MotoGP season picked up where it ended with Casey Stoner winning with a five second margin over rookie Jorge Lorenzo. However the race, under the floodlights of the Losail circuit, was a lot more impressive, exciting and interesting than many of the Stoner dominated races of 2007.

MotoGP testing resumed in Sepang over the last few days with a much-depleted field. With only the Fiat Yamaha team and the Gresini and Repsol Honda teams testing, along with test teams from Yamaha and Kawasaki it was a lot less busy than the previous Sepang test.

The MotoGP testing period has moved from Malaysia to Phillip Island, Australia as the majority of the MotoGP grid resume their testing schedule. Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards set the fastest lap of day one with 1′29.566 about half a second quicker than Aussie Casey Stoner.

For the second time in as many days Bradley Smith has topped the 125cc timesheets in the Jerez testing sessions. 2006 MotoGP Champion Nicky Hayden clocked the fastest lap time of the 3 day testing period as the 3rd day to came to a conclusion. Hayden did a 2′00.326 lap, over three tenths of a second quicker than any other rider.
