Confidence soaring for Omagh Teenager
Nicole McAleer who had a torrid start to the 2009 season is gradually gaining her old confidence and this was noticeable on Sunday at Brands Hatch when the teenager from Omagh who is about to embark on her second year of her College studies in September got a good start to the 14 laps race which was held over the full Brands Hatch GP circuit.

McAleer who had been improving on her timings with each session was off to a lightening start but was boxed in slightly and this held her up somewhat on the opening laps as she was riding steady to get heat into her Dunlop tyres on the Splash in the Pan Honda. But after a couple of laps she was soon moving up the field and was more than delighted to break into the top 20 during the final laps.
At the chequered flag she was credited with 20th place and she had the satisfaction of knowing that she was closing down on 19th place Sam Hornsey. Not only was she in the top 20, but she was also eighth in the Academy Cup, this latest run of consistent points has elevated her back into the top ten with 45 points, only seven points to close the gap to ninth place.
McAleer’s next race on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August at Cadwell Park, a track which McAleer likes.
