HannSpree Ten Kate’s Carlos Checa has hit out at accusations that he rode into Max Neukirchner at the Valencian round of the World Superbike Championship at the weekend.
Speaking to Spanish press, the former MotoGP star has blamed his rival for the clash that robbed the pair of a safe first and second in Spain. Checa said:
I knew that I had the best speed of all the riders in the group and that with the temperature that we had to deal with at the end of the race I knew my tyres were in good shape, I thought my tyres would have lasted better than they would have done on the Ducatis.
I made a pretty bad start in the first race and had to ride hard to make my way through the field, but then I made some good progress and could see Neukirchner ahead. As I closed in I saw that he ran a little wide and there was a gap so I went for it.
I wanted to go for it and try for the win but as I went for the pass he closed the door. We touched, but it was him who hit me as he tried to close the door. I think it was just a racing incident but I see it as him closing the door while I was making a good pass.
Take a look at the video and let us know who you think was to blame, or was it just racing? Nobody’s fault?

racing incident, BUT…. max did shut the door, BUT…. checa should not have made the pass from that far back. so both in the wrong, more to checa, but a racing incident in the end!

Yeah i agree, Carlos was too far back to make that pass but Max left the door open for him and then closed it too late.
Shame for Max though

See I think by looking at the video Carlos makes a good move up the inside and yes with a little contact, however I don’t think that’s what brought them both off. Looks to me like Carlos was coming in hotter than he thought and squeezed the front break, then max gets a shock and in an attempt not to be brought of he also squeezes the front break
That’s my opinion let me no what you think about my opinion

Yeah, you could be right.
But as i said checa was too far back for max to know he was there, so the late move was unexpected and happened to fast for max to think, so he closes the door, both go down and racing incident it is. if it went down to who’s fault, im sorry but i would have to say checa was a little enthusiastic.
