Kat Sanderson

Having been interested in motorbikes all my life, I finally got my first opportunity to ride one at 15, late one night, on my step dad’s 500cc Kawasaki in a Super Market car park. The next day, my family surprised me with a day at a race school on the full GP circuit at Donington Park – where I had to convince the Ron Haslam Race School to let me onto the track, using the basic skills I had learned only the night before!
Riding a track prepared Honda CB500, I got my first taste of circuit riding, and within a few laps I was doing over 100mph! Even a couple of detours over the grass could not dampen my enthusiasm – as my grin after each session proved.I have now progressed and I race around the UK at all the major race circuits. Racing is like entering a battle. If you don’t watch out it can be very painful as you slide into the gravel. So far I seem to bounce quite well. Most crashes are losing the front wheel whilst leant over. This generally leads to a fairly steady slide for me and the bike. Losing the rear wheel tends to amount to a more painful crash and more damage to the bike. Most things with only two wheels fall over at some stage.
I feel extremely proud and privileged to be assisted by some great companies by means of product support and excellent discounts. I consider each and every one of these companies as my team partners.
I hope I give them a good return in their investment as I wear their branding on my bike and clothing. I always look out for opportunities to spread the ‘word’. This year I made sure I attended the very first Sheffield City Centre outdoor motorshow. We put our bike on display with action photos, showed off one of our Gilder Van Centre vehicles and let the public sit on my race bike for photos. All in a day’s work for my PR plan!
