The new season has a new race team. 2008 will see the MKW Suspension team join the British Superbike paddock and rival the Triumph Daytona 675’s in the Supersport Cup and Junior Superstock classes. The two riders will be Marcus Wade and Sam Middlemas, racing under the tutelage of Chris Moore.
The busy year ahead will see Chris with not only a new business but two rookie riders. Moore has previously worked with Centurion Honda and was instrumental in helping Pete Spalding to the 2006 British Supersport Cup title. Just last year he won the New Era Superclub 600 Championship with RLR Motorsport and Steve Tomes.
MKW Racing will field one rider in British Supersport Cup and another in the Junior Superstock series. The Leicestershire-based team will be assisted by two Ex-British Supersport riders, Steve Tomes and Brian Nicholson, who will tutor the riders. The team is joined by Paul Castle of Brain Tuned Sport Psychology Solutions, to prepare the riders’ for the steep learning curve that is the British Championships. Paul’s book, entitled, “Psychology of Motorsport Success: How to improve your performance with mental skills training”, will be released for sale by Haynes publishing in April and is written specifically for racers.
The first rider for the MKW team will be 27 year old Marcus Wade who continues with Moore after a successful 2007 season in which he finished runner-up in the Sound of Thunder New Era Superclub Championship. Competing in both the Sound of Thunder and Formula 600 classes gave Wade some invaluable experience, and he became a race winner in both classes in his first full season of racing. A wild card ride at the Donington Park British Supersport round saw him finish 21st, his first venture at British level. This year Marcus will be competing in the hotly contested Supersport Cup category and may be one to watch in the wet as he has become renowned as something of a wet weather specialist.
Sam Middlemas, MKW’s other rider, is the newest recruit to the squad and will be looking to improve on 2007 after taking multiple victories. The 20 year old impressed over the year with his performances including a club lap record on the way to a Thunderbike class victory at Brands Hatch, and this despite carrying injuries from a high speed crash just days before. Starting out in schoolboy motocross, Sam moved to Supermoto for just one season before finally making the jump to road racing in 2006. Middlemas already has a season’s experience on a Superstock spec 675 and should make a fast transition into the junior Superstock category in 2008.
The team plan to race in selected New Era Superclub events throughout 2008 as well as taking part in all of the British Superbike series.
