Strong Performance from Gault in Re-Scheduled race
It was business as usual as the British Super Bike Circus returned to Brands Hatch in Kent for the postponed round which had to be re-scheduled, due to an unseasonable Snow fall. In complete contrast the weekend was bathed in glorious sunshine and high temperatures, which drew out huge crowds.

With bad luck having followed the team since the start of this championship, 17 year old Gault would start from the 5th row of the grid in 18th place after brake failure in the original qualifying round.
Things did not bode well at first for the Scottish Youngster, as in Free Practice on the Saturday a coming together with another rider resulted in Gault sitting on the side lines for the later half of the session with his bike beached in the sand of the gravel trap.
In Sundays race, however he was exceptional, up to 11th by the first lap, Alex fought hard and managed to get up to 6th place before a massive rear wheel slide coming down Paddock Hill resulted in him losing 2 places. In the following lap, he did re-group and managed to fight back only losing out on 6th place by 0.06 of a second at the end of the 14 Lap race.
This performance won Gault the ‘David Jefferies memorial Award’ which is given to the highest place finisher under the age of 18 years of age. Jefferies, the much loved and well respected holder of the Isle of Man TT outright lap record, tragically died on May 29th, 2003, when he crashed during practice at Crosby on the TT circuit.
The next round of the championship takes place on the 24th/25th/26th of this month at Donington Park, where Gault will not only contest the 600cc Championship aboard the ASTRO Kawasaki but the meeting will also host the next 2 rounds of the KTM Super Duke Battle when Gault will be racing ‘The Fowlers of Bristol Ltd’ Super Duke ‘R’ machine.
