After a great qualifying posiion of 3rd early at the first round, Jay has been unable to hold position during the race held last weekend.
Even though he had improved on lap times, several riders also increased theres. The biggest problem is when qualifying Jay is able to maximise his superior corner speed to its full, but during race conditions, when everybody is grouped together he is finding the raw power of the other machines especially the Yamahas too great.
They are able to outrun the Honda at every opportunity. This on paper equates to a deficet of 7bhp down on power and almost 9mph down through the speed traps at only 135mph. this is sometimes less at different tracks.
At Oulton park in Qualifying Jay was 51st out of 54 riders through the speed trap yet he managed 9th in the race. Out of the 40 riders to qualify jays bike was last through the speed trap,1.5mph down on 39th place and nearly 9mph down on 1st,
Unfortunately although the Honda is a great handling bike so are the rest. We have inherited the Honda through the unfortunate demise of our relationship with Tena For Men Honda, and would not and is not the chosen bike for many rider in this championship.
We have the bike up at Nicky Kennedy Tuners at the moment whilst he trys to found a bit more performance, this though will be minimum also we have now ordered the Ohlins 25mm cartridge sets for the front forks, though this will help us with handling we are still down a mile on power, legally this gap cannot be bridged and we can only do the best we can on this machine.
Unfortunately after speaking with many renowned tuners and people involved with this championship, the only way to beat a Yamaha is to buy one and with the cost of setting one up being £10,000.00minmum we have no alternative but to struggle on wth the Honda.
Jay himself has lost a little grit because of feeling it is a lost cause, But we know if we can keep his confidence at a high he can still achieve some good results, hopefully being the highest placed Honda in the championship.
We are sorry this may be a dissapointment to our sponsors and friends but thanks to you all.
