Seasons Best from Gault

Round 10 of the British Super Bike Championship hosted round 9 off The National Super Stock 600 championship which saw 52 entered for the event vying for the 40 places on the grid for Saturday’s race to be held at the Croft Circuit located just outside Darlington in North Yorkshire.

Free Practice held on the Friday and 17 year old Gault posted the 11th fastest time of the session, which we are sure was thanks to one man, ‘Trevor Baird’ one off Alex’s personal sponsors who had paid for the team to attended a test day at the circuit last week. This returned massive dividends as the team, then arrived having a good set up for the circuit, which allowed the youngster Gault to concentrate on making small adjustments to suit the track condition and climatic changes.

Qualifying 1 only 43 riders took to the track in the last session to be held on the Friday evening and the heavens had opened, in a very wet session and the Kawasaki ZX6R mounted Gault, posted a 1.36.785 second lap time to give him provisional 7th position on the grid.

Q2 was held on again a wet track although it did start to slightly dry through the 25 minute session. Where the Scottish teenager managed to go much quicker posting a time of 1.33.982. Only problem was? So had everyone else, The Astro Kawasaki rider eventually ended up P.11 for the start of the Championship race later that day.

Brawl for the first corner Race Tyre choice and suspension set up was easy for the race as the track was completely dry, and a good start seen Gault up to 9th by the end of the first lap. Up front Robbie Brown was in a class of his own winning the race by over 8 seconds but as the race developed, behind there was a fantastic battle between Championship leader Johnston, Clark, Dixon, and Burns, with a 2 second gap to Akroyd and Gault the pair pushing each other to the limit, both managed to catch and pass Jonathon Dixon but couldn’t catch the lead group at the end of a very exciting 15 lap race around the very demanding Croft circuit. Alex had to settle for 6th, equalling his best result of the season and again the first Kawasaki home and the fastest he has ever gone round the circuit, with a fastest lap of 1.26.380. So all in all we must put that down as a very successful weekend’s racing and would like to thank all his sponsors who make this possible.

This result even after missing round 8 for personal reasons, climes Alex for the first time, onto the top ten leaderboard he now is sitting 9th place in the main championship and 4th in the under 19’s championship.
