Ryan Brain

From his first minimoto experience - riding round a local car park to third in a National Championship, the last two years have been a roller coaster ride for Ryan.
In 2007 he entered his first race, in the Phoenix Academy cup, unfortunately as his tyres weren’t standard he could not be awarded points for this meeting, even though he won all 3 races. However with standard tyres fitted for the next meeting (which involved a frantic search round all mini moto suppliers and a last minute bidding war on ebay!) he was able to race for points and prizes. Again he won all 3 of his races.
Ryan continued to do consistently well throughout the remaining season. In a fitting finale he won all 3 of his races at the last meeting of the season. This meant that he was just 1 point away from 3rd place in the championship. No mean achievement considering he missed the first 3 meetings of the championship, got no points for his first win or for winning in the rain before a meeting was finally abandoned to torrential rain.

During the winter of 2007 he honed his rainy weather skills to come 3rd overall in the National Winter Series run by Phoenix racing.
This year – 2008 – he has entered both his minimoto bikes in the MMRA British Championship, the National Pocket Bike Championship and the Phoenix National Championships.
After the first round of the Phoenix Championship Ryan is leading the Junior 4.2 class after he won two 1st places and a 2nd place. Ryan had a phenomenal start to his Prodie debut in this championship - he won his first 2 races, then disaster struck and a mechanical failure (spark plug wouldn’t spark) cost him race 3, but even with a non finish he still took 3rd overall.
In the MRA British Championship, the snow storms and near blizzards did not deter Ryan at the first round at Llandow in South Wales. All the practice in the winter weather certainly paid off as he crossed the finish line in second place in a snow storm. Ryan was 2nd overall in the Junior 4.2 class and 3rd overall in the Junior Production Class.
In the National Pocket Bike Series, his first race meeting was at Rye House in Hertfordshire, where he had an amazing start. He was awarded 4th place in the Junior 4.2 class and 5th place in the Junior Production Class.
The future – Ryan has had a fantastic start to this season and looks set to be consistently on the podium. He has just got a Metrakit 50cc geared bike. He just had time to go up and down the garden on it a couple of times (only room for 1st gear) before heading to a race meet at Beccles in Suffolk. After a couple of times round the car park in the morning, he felt ready to take it on the track and was out racing by the afternoon, amazingly he came home with the third place trophy. It looks as though he’s destined for the same success on this bike. Keep up to date with all Ryans news and results at his web site.
