Sam Coventry

Sam Coventry received his first motorcycle at 5 years old, a PW50 type machine and then a Kawasaki KX65cc which he practiced on by riding at local tracks, before announcing in 2004 he wanted to go racing.
2004 - 2006 Motorcross with Portsmouth MX and Hants & Dorset MX clubs. Competing on a Kawasaki KX 85cc small wheel bike and subsequently Honda 150 four stroke machine. He broke his arm in a start line crash in 2006 so was out of action for a few rounds but still managed to finish 14th out of 40 riders in the Inter85 Championship.
2007 – Started road racing with North Gloucester Road Racing Club (NGRRC) in the Formula 125cc class, riding an Aprilia RS125, for the last couple of meetings of the season at Pembrey and Thruxton. He managed to finish 14th in the Formula 125cc Championship with NGRRC in 2007.
2008 – For 2008 Sam Coventry is competing in the Formula 125cc championships with the following clubs;
- East Midlands Racing Association (EMRA) – Won both F125 races at the last meeting 15th June 08
- North Gloucester Road Racing Club (NGRRC) – Wins at Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park and numerous top 3 placings
He is also competing in the Aprilia Superteen Series with the Thundersport GB – Best placing so far 8th out of 35 riders.
Current championship standings as of 30 June 2008 are as follows:
- EMRA - (joint) 1st F125cc
- NGRRC - 2nd Place F125cc
- Thundersport GB – 10th out of 45 in the Nitro Newcomers Championship
Sam has also starting competing on a Honda RS125GP bike.

He has been doing so well on his Aprilia 125cc in the Formula 125cc, he does not want to miss a championship round in this class. Unfortunately the 125cc GP bikes are on track at the same time as the Formula bikes when racing at NGRRC and EMRA (although not competing directly against each other) so Sam has only been able to race the Honda in the Lougi Moto 400 newcomers at NGRRC. He is racing against machines of up to 400cc in the class and has had some great results on his 125cc. He bagged a 2nd place at Brands Hatch in April and was 7th at Snetterton and 3rd at Cadwell (unfortunately was given a 10 second penalty for jump starting, which left him 7th in the results).
Sam’s current championship standing in the Louigi Moto 400 is 4th overall. Not bad on a 125cc machine!
Sam’s aim this season is to win the Formula 125 championship and finish in the top 10 placings in the Aprilia Superteen Series.
Ultimately Sam would like to progress into MotoGP, BSB or WSBK. We are hoping to get him a wildcard ride in the 125cc round of BSB in 2009, finances permitting.
Sam has a couple of small sponsors - Unipart Automotive gave him some money towards the purchase of the bikes at the start of the season and Motodirect supply him with RST leathers and AGV helmets at trade prices, for which he is really grateful. The rest of Sam’s funding comes from Mum and Dad, we are still looking for help from further sponsors.
