Stewart keeps his cool in hard fought Superstock race for 3rd place finish
Robbie Stewart put in a sterling performance in the hard fought Metzeler National 600cc Superstock Championship second round at Thruxton on Sunday.
The Scottish, Repli-cast UK Racing youngster found himself in a real battle with a tightly packed group, fighting for podium honours after race winner Josh Day managed to break from the pack from the start to take the top podium step.
This left the other podiums steps open to offers and Robbie stepped up to the mark to produce a thrilling race where any number of riders could have taken his place on the step in a close fought physical battle for places.
Having qualified in 10th place on the grid, Robbie got off to a good start and settled down into the race where a lot of hopefuls ended up in the gravel. He kept his cool when others around him faltered and produced the brilliant performance needed to get himself on the podium. This result puts Robbie in 8th place in the early Championship standings.
Robbie Stewart #17 – 3rd place
I got off to a good start and settled in to the race at a pace I was comfortable with. Although the tyres seemed to go off slightly early on in the race, the bike ran faultlessly all through and even though I had a few close calls where other riders came to grief right in front of me, I managed to keep out of trouble and produced a result that the team deserves. Next up for me is Oulton Park and one of my favourite circuits, so I’m really looking forward to it now we have the bike running as it should.

I was quite pleased with all the teams performance on Friday practice/qualifying sessions but the team need to go to bed and wake up not happy and raring to go on Saturday. I had a few words with them and they all rode like they should in Saturday’s sessions. I was over the moon with the way Robbie rode on Sunday. He rode a fantastic race and I was really pleased to see him get the podium result he deserves. Next up is round 3 at Oulton and we need to up our game again to make sure that we progress as we should. Well done to Robbie for a brilliant performance and lets repeat it again in 2 weeks time!
