On a wet and windy Mallory Park Tom got his Emra championship back on track after his 3 DNF’s so far this season with Emra. One was when the chain snapped in the assembly area, and the two others when he crashed in the first race (round 3) and ground his little finger away going into Edwina’s and one poor finish (due to detonating a piston at Round 1). Toms dad thought that Tom would be slightly cautious of Edwina’s after the crash, but Tom wasn’t cautious at all round there.(so no ghosts then)! He put the bike on 4th place on the grid in the wet qualifying session, which was a reasonable result.
In the first race he got off to a good start and was 3rd into the first corner. He was overtaken down the straight on the next lap. Tom tried to stay with him but the pace was too fast for him. Tom was then overtaken on the brakes going into Edwina’s; Tom overtook him back on the exit. But then on the next lap he tried it again and he made the move stick. Tom took the chequered flag in 5th. He was quite disappointed with this, but at least he finished!
In the second race Tom got off to another great start and was 2nd into the first corner from 5th on the grid (the grid changes after the first race results) He kept 2nd for a lap but then was overtaken. Tom again tried to stay with him but just couldn’t match the pace. He stayed in third for most of the race until on the last lap Tom was held up by a back marker at Edwina’s and the person behind Tom got through. Tom tried to re-overtake him going into the hairpin but didn’t make the move stick. Tom finished in 4th and was happier with this result, even though he felt he should have got third. Wet riding doesn’t suit him due to his lightweight but at least he now knows this and hopefully can adapt his riding style to suit next time out in the wet.
