Tom Fisher’s Race Report from Brands Hatch 21st-22nd March 08 with Derby Phoenix Motorcycle Club
Brands Hatch Round 1
Brands Hatch was a good steady start to the 2008 racing season. Practice on Friday morning was good just very cold!
Race 1
Started 7th on the grid, got a good start and was 4th into the first turn, made my way up to second by turn 2 and was leading by turn 3. I was leading for a few laps then slipped back into a battle for 3rd place when the race was cut very short and was red flagged on lap 6 of 12 which put me in 4th.
Race 2
This was a wet race which I was looking forward to but all didn’t go well. I got off to a steady start then my visor started to fog on the outside. I could not see much due to the fog and spray from the other riders which left me 5th at the finish.
Day 2 Race 3
For this race I had to start 10th and not 5th where I finished the day before so I was on the third row. I got a terrible start as I could not engage second gear from the lights which put me about 10th after the first lap. Knowing it was a 15 lap race I got my head down a started to pick a few riders off. The last lap came and I was about 1.5 seconds off second position and I knew I had to push on just to catch him never mind make the pass. As it turned out luck was in my favor and the second place man got held up by a back marker coming onto cooper straight which allowed me to pass him with 2 turns to go and finish in second place.
Race 4
This was a dry race and I started second. Got a good start and was running in 3rd just behind the leaders. A few laps in the 2 leaders started to pull away from me as it started to snow! It snowed for a few laps then stopped. I was in a battle for 3rd place for about half the 15 lap race. The last few laps the snow came down once again and as I tried to make the pass for 3rd I could see snow blowing across the track. Not the best of conditions!
Overall the weekend went well, scored good points in every race which gets 2008 off to a good start. Hopefully at the next round which is croft I fell a bit better on the bike and can push a lot harder.
A big thanks to everyone that helped me at Brands. Including my number one fan Sam.

Croft is on April 12/13th isn’t it? I’m hoping to get along to that meeting at least for one of the days.
