After his class wins at Brands Hatch Tom Weeden really wanted more success at Mallory with EMRA this year to top his runner up in the championship from last year.
Tom went well in qualifying and put his bike on the front row in 3rd.
In the race he got a good start and was 2nd into Gerard’s. He overtook John Lea on the brakes going into Edwina’s to put him in 1st. On the second lap John Lea managed to overtake Tom down the straight and on lap 3 as Tom went into Edwina’s Ross Humphries tried to out brake Tom but out broke himself in the process. This pushed Tom out wide onto the dusty part of the track and Tom lost the front end on his Honda 125. The bikes handlebar landed on Tom’s left hand. Tom’s little finger was trapped under the handlebar and the abrasion against the floor caused the leather to totally disintegrate. The bike went away from his finger and Tom skidded along the run off on his bum, two fingers in the air towards Ross (he was quite annoyed as you can imagine.)
As Tom got up he looked at his left little finger, there was blood everywhere. Tom immediately ran towards a friend at the paddock fence who picked him up and sprinted towards the ambulance. The ambulance drove Tom to the med centre who had a look at the finger. The nail had been totally ground away and the flesh had also been totally ground away. He had the wound cleaned and dressed at the Med Centre (thanks everyone).
He wasn’t up to racing in the second race. Tom’s championship chances at EMRA are probably all but over now. In the first round his piston detonated. In the second round his chain snapped while in the assembly area and now in round 3 he has a DNF and a DNS.
Hopefully his finger will be healed enough for Snetterton with Thundersport in 2 weeks time.

Tom went from the Med centre, to his GP, then to A and E and was then referred to a specialist clinic.
Tom had an operation on Thursday to repair the skin lost, and to try and salvage some of the nail bed but hopes are not high for the nail to grow. Still only got to cut nine nails now!
The hospital have said it should be healed enough to ride again in 2weeks. But Tom is hoping to ride after 8 days on the Friday at Snetterton.
