The weather was hot and sunny, and there were 22 people on the grid, including 5 BSB 125 riders. Tom qualified 8th on the grid. But got off to a terrible start in the race and was about 15th going into the first corner. He wasn’t worried about this as it was a long 20 lap race and he had time to work his way up. Over the next 10 laps Tom found himself in 7th. He overtook the 6th place man Adam Robinson, on the brakes going into the hairpin. But they swapped places several times in the next 3 laps.
As he was going down the straight with 7 laps to go, Tom realised his zip on his leathers had somehow unzipped itself right to the bottom. Tom went through the next few laps expecting to be black flagged and taken off the track. He stood up on the bike and tried to zip it up; this allowed Adam through and pulled a gap on Tom. Tom gave up on trying to zip it up and gave chase to Adam. He caught him up and overtook him with one lap to go, but unfortunately couldn’t make it stick and Adam overtook him again and finished 6th whereas Tom despite putting in his fastest lap on lap 20 had to settle for 7th (4th in class) he was very lucky not to crash when his zip was pulled down to the bottom leaving his chest bare.
But it was nice considering it was a boiling day!
This still keeps Tom in 1st for the ACU GP3 Clubman’s and 2nd in both the Thundersport GB GP3 and GP3 Cup.
