Victorian titles round 1

FRIDAY PRACTICE DAY
Friday was Brandon’s first time on the bike since he broke his arm at the final round last year during the Hughie Hoare Endurance race. We hoped to turn some laps, and get back into the groove of racing after a 4 month lay off. Brandon was tentative initially, but soon had his lap times coming down in each session. We made it through the day, and got plenty of laps in before Saturday’s race meeting.

SATURDAY
We had our favorite mechanic Pete (Moses) Hern come and help us on Saturday and Sunday. We give him plenty of cheek, but really could not have got through the weekend without his help. He has always been there when we have needed his help, and we really do appreciate him giving up his weekend to help Brandon. Qualifying came and went with Brandon 3rd in the 70cc class, and 8th overall. His lap time of 1:17.4 is a long way off what he has done before, but after being off the bike for so long, and coming back from a crash, we were very happy with the times. Two races were held for the juniors on Saturday, with a 4th and 3rd place for him.

SUNDAY
More great weather on Sunday and we hoped for some more great results for Brandon. Race 3 of the weekend saw Brando finish in 4th place, but with lap times now down to 1:14s. Race 4 saw a turn in our luck. As Brandon negotiated the pit exit turn, he was hit hard from behind by another rider, with both of them going down hard at speed. Brandon’s bike had broken levers, and Brandon himself was banged up a bit, but he still bravely pushed his bike about 200m to the finish line to gain the points he needed. So many people dived in to get the bike repaired before the next race. We would like to thank all those that took time out of their lunch break to help us fix the bike and get Brando back out for the 5th and final race of the day. Race 5 saw a stiff and sore Brandon, bravely line up again, where he struggled through to finish in 5th place.

The points he accrued over the weekend saw him finish 3rd outright in the 70cc class, which all things considered, was a great result. Brandon had many people assist or offer much needed advice over the weekend. He would like to thank Pete Hern, the boys from Jed Metcher Racing (Mal and Ted), Shannon Johnson, Andrew and Karen Gosling, Ross Gurd and Bryce Van Hoff, Nicky Diles and Paul Mitchell from Metrakit Australia and Laurie Zanesco.

As always, we need to thank our sponsors for there support. Without them, racing would be even harder, and we thank them for their assistance.

Brandon’s next race meeting will be at the world famous Phillip Island race track on the 22nd-23rd May.
